Good Morning Rolls : Scotland’s Forgotten Cultural Icon (6pm)
Tuesday 26 May 2026
18:00 - 19:30
Inn Deep, Glasgow
Speaker: Peter Gilchrist, Scottish Food Historian
Scotland has had the morning roll for at least 300 years longer than Paris has had the baguette, so why don’t we celebrate our rolls for the gastronomic hero that they are? Join Scottish Food Historian, Peter Gilchrist, for a journey through the history of our morning rolls, from the 16th century reidy baps to the 21st century grease-stained paper bag. Once we understand that the act of placing a morning roll order, is as important as clans, tartans and ceilidhs, we can begin to celebrate our food history in a meaningful way.

Who Do They Think You Are? The Price Of Consumer Genomics & Ancestry Tests
Wednesday 27 May 2026
19:30 - 21:15
Little Picardy, Edinburgh
Speaker: John Doran, Science Lecturer & Researcher
The rise of consumer genomics companies like 23andMe and AncestryDNA has been incredible. They have become fundamental to how millions of us now see ourselves and our place in the world. You can learn about your future health risks, be forced to re-examine your family tree, find out you’re predisposed to conditions you’d rather not think about. But the technologies and business models behind ancestry and health testing are, in many ways, very scary. The regulatory gaps are huge and leave the sector wide open to bad incentives. Many of these companies have fallen on hard times and now they need to get creative about how to flip a profit... and the one thing they have at their disposal, is your genetic data..
